Birdwatching Week of 15th May

It has been a long 5 months this year. This was my last semester in school and I was occupied with studying for exams. Hence I was not able to go out for bird watching. But now since my exams were over I could go and enjoy myself.

My exams finished on the 16th of may and the first place I visited was sungai buloh wetland reserve. This is because I got news from my friends that their was a pair of copper throated sunbirds nesting. Since I only saw this birds once before, I wanted to see it again. So I took my mom in a taxi all the way to SBWR.

It did not take long to find the bird as there was an entire hoard of photographers waiting to take pictures of them. Luckily I could get a spot and managed to get some decent shot of the nesting. The first one to greet me was the female. After a few rounds of the female the male decided to come and feed the chicks






































Unfortunately, the pictures aren't too good. If you zoom in you will notice the lack of detail and that is because I was shooting at ISO 3200. I wish the lighting was better. Once I was satisfied with the nest shoots I decided to take a shoot of the bird sitting on a twig. This move produced some better quality images. 

The next day I decided to go to SBG. Unfortunately I went in the afternoon as a results there were not too many birds. I actually had a shutter count of 0. It was a boring ride home :( On the 18th I decided to go with my friend to Bukit Timha nature reserve (BTNR). We first went to the Dairy farm nature reserve in the north side of the nature reserve. Although it has a different name, dairy farm is still a part of BTNR, it is just one section. We walked on the wallace trail until we got to flooring tapioca trees. In that area we were greeted by a Crimson Sunbird. We waited in the same spot for a 2hrs and managed to see olive winged bulbuls, olive backed sunbirds, thick billed pigeons and the star bird the van hasstles sunbird. It was a amazing time in this one spot. Unfortunately I did not get a great shot of the van hasstles sunbird



























After our time here, my friend and I walked to the MRT so that we could go to Hindhede Nature park in the south part of the nature reserve. This was one of our lucky days as we managed to see 2 species of owls and a Greater racket tailed drone. We saw 2 Juv Sunda Scoops owl and brown hawk owl.


























































It was a amazing day Indeed!



19th May
Today I decided to go to Gardens By the bay (GBTB) as I on the 20th I had to lead a group of people from NSS around GBTB . The recent hot whether did not help my cause. I barely saw any birds at GBTB. The highlights of the trip were a distant Crimson Sunbird and Scarlet backed flowerpecker .

Disheartened, I decided to go to ang mo kio to see the nests there. I only managed to see the glossy swiftlet nest, but I dropped that idea soon as it was incredible hot! I quite after seeing the swifts .

Me being me, I decided to go once more to BTNR to see the Owls again. This time I was lucky, I managed to see 2 brown hawk owls!












20th May
Today I had to go for the nature walk at GBTB. I was not to excited due to the whether but I was shocked when I saw the black bittren ! I had not seen it since March. The walk was a susses as we saw 31 species of birds, mainly common. I was fortunate enough to see the yellow bellied prima in a open area.The first time I saw this bird, ever!













21st May
I decided to take rest on this Sunday, what a amazing week I had! I was thoroughly satisfied with what I saw.
